A woman armed with a bat and scissors was shot by a police officer in the Bronx Tuesday night, the NYPD said.
According to police, officers responded to a call about an emotionally disturbed person at an apartment on Pugsley Avenue in Castle Hill around 6:05 p.m.
When police arrived, the woman was alone in the apartment but held scissors. The sergeant on the scene was able to talk her into putting the scissors down, police said, but she then grabbed a baseball bat and charged him.
Police said the sergeant fired two shots at the woman, striking her. She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where she later died, according to the NYPD.
Police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
