MTA: 1 dead after being pushed in front of train in Times Square

A person was pushed onto the tracks and fatally struck by an oncoming southbound 1 train at the Times Square-42nd Street station Monday afternoon, police said.

An NYPD spokesman said a female suspect, who was not immediately identified, pushed the victim onto the tracks around 1:30 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The suspect is in custody, according to cops. It remains unclear what preceded the incident or if the suspect and victim knew each other, police said.

As a result, there are service changes on the 1, 2 and 3 lines, the MTA said.

Southbound 1 trains are bypassing Times Square-42nd Street, according to the MTA. Southbound 2 trains are running on the 5 line from 149 Street-Grand Concourse to Nevins Street.

Customers can expect delays on 1, 2 and 3 trains.
