Met Opera evacuated due to powdered substance

The Metropolitan Opera House canceled a performance Saturday afternoon after an audience member "sprinkled an unidentified powdered substance into the orchestra pit," the Met Opera said on its Facebook page.

The Met Opera was evacuated, and a performance of "Guillaume Tell" was canceled "as a safety precaution" during the second intermission when the incident happened.

The audience was initially told that the cancellation was prompted by a technical issue.
