NEW YORK, U.S. - Macy's, a popular departmental store which functions at over 700 locations will stick to its decision of not selling products from the Donald J Trump menswear brand, the store's CEO Terry Lundgren has said.
Macy had been selling Trump's brand products since the year 2004 but stopped doing so in 2015 after Trump made a remark on Mexicans when he began his presidential campaign.
Trump had said, “People coming into the United States from Mexico are bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."
Lundgren, the store's CEO said that the decision is not just against a particular candidate but the brand's association with political parties.
He said, "As I have said, we wouldn't carry product from a political candidate - and now a politician - whether they be Republican or Democrat. If Hillary Clinton had a line of women's suits or handbags I wouldn't carry those either. I just think we don't want to be a politically associated company, we sell to everybody at Macy's and have a broad and diverse customer base."
Trump had reacted to the store's decision on social media by saying that by doing what they said, the store believed in illegal immigration and thus should be boycotted and claimed that he was the one who terminated contractual relationship with the store.
Macy's stocks saw a fall throughout 2015 but witnessed a rise earlier this year.
Although the store will continue to not sell Donald Trump's products, it is still selling products of his daughter Ivanka Trump's brand.
